ISRAEL - What Are The Odds?
The Bible says that Israel will be regathered though initially in unbelief and that its city Jerusalem will be a sore spot in the world. More than that, their temple will be rebuilt. This was to happen a long time into the future from when it was written.
Let's see what are the odds?
There are over 8 million books registered at the Library of Congress. Only one discusses this matter. Over 2 dozen religious texts (depending how you count) and various attempts at prophecies in different books exist. Only one will discuss this issue. It happens to be the Bible.
There are Approximately 190 countries today. The odds that any one country will be the most troublesome in the world would be 1/190. By some “freak of coincidence”, this country happens to be Israel just as the scriptures declared.
The Lord names one city in one country that will be the particular source of irritation. Jerusalem is named to be that city. Interesting as it is not a strategic city. It was not by a major highway route in ancient times and today it is not a port city or a city by an important waterway as many important cities are today. Now if I didn’t “know” better, I might be inclined to think there is something very unusual about this book called the Bible.
This one country would be surrounded by enemies, many nations (not just Rome as in 70AD).
God saving this nation would not be due to its godliness but in spite of its godlessness (the same basis of ourselves finding grace). The Lord said he would do this for His name's sake and the promises to the patriarchs. In this one city, of the world, the Bible says there is going to be a temple erected. Now there are approximately 4,500 cities in the world with population over 150,000. Oddly, this unique city happens to be the most hotly contested religious property in the world and the key area of dispute today is the area where the ancient temple stood where there are preparations in place to rebuild it.
It gets more interesting. What are the odds a country like Israel would even be resurrected again? It is hard to say as no other nation fits into this situation. We have no benchmark to work with. How are the calculators doing? Perhaps they need a few more zeros to work this thing out.
So what we have here is the resurrection against all odds of an ancient country destroyed almost 2000 years ago. When it is created again, it is surrounded by its ancient enemies who immediately attempt to destroy the overwhelmingly underpowered infant county on the day of its creation.
The enemies lose what should be the easiest of wars when you look at how Israel’s armaments were almost nonexistent. Later the country captures its ancient capital in another defensive war. The city instantly becomes the burdensome stone of the world. In the years following, pressure builds in the country to build its ancient temple where preparations have been made.
Makes you wonder if something is about to happen.
Only the Bible! Are any other religious texts in the running? None.
Many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased says the Lord in the book of Daniel. The context of this prophecy is the last days. Israel in many ways is the information capital of the world especially in comparison to its size. The world has greatly benefited from its discoveries and inventions. It is not a godly nation at all by God's standards but compared to its enemies it shines.
The Bible also states the people of this nation would become a byword among the nations and the term “Jew” while it can be used in a neutral sense is often used as an insult and a term of reproach. It is becoming fast the most despised term in the world today.
The Bible also says the nations would lay a siege against Israel in the last days. This will be further fulfilled later but what is one of the most popular international movements around today? It is the BDS against Israel! Boycott Divest and Sanction! Yes, the world is building a siege against Israel. And, let us not forget our beloved institution, the United Nations which has so many issues to deal with around the world but still finds time from its busy day to devote 1/3 of its resolutions against Israel. Only I small portion of prophetic material was alluded to here.
One may object and ask well what are the odds the North Korea would exist today? The odds that a country like North Korea would exist today or any day are actually quite high especially considering that they were never mentioned in detail in ONE Book.
However from another perspective, what are the odds of Israel existing today against all odds in the state it is in? The odds are a certainty because it has been declared by the God of the universe.
What are the odds? Well what are they? If I was a betting man, I would put my money on the God of the Bible. Better yet, I would trust my soul to Him.
As the Lord states in Isaiah on the topic of forgiveness, “Come, let us reason together”.
