There have been many renditions of this tale. I am referring to the one starring Jack Palance.
"Galatians 5:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do
the things that ye would."
Frustration will at times be part of the Chritian life. I just have to decide what I will frustrate.
In some cases we have aquired bad habits which can be very difficult to break. As much as we may want to deny it, we sin because we want to sin MORE than we do NOT want to sin. To overcome it, may require more than praying and studying the Bible which of course is a prerequisite. While it is true that some people upon salvation have been wonderfully delivered from sinful habits, that is not always the case.
Hebrews 12:4 "Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin."
Yes, Mr. Hyde dwells in us. Paul says he must die daily.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against
the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
1 Peter 2:11
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
1 Peter 5:8
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
"Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
So as the dear and wise apostle Paul proclaimed “I die daily”. Without his mindset, there is no hope of experiencing what we claim to desire.
Fare thee well and a lesson to myself.
