Apart from the hundreds of mangled verses in the English Standard Version which it shares with its contemporaries, it is most disturbing to see its bias against the restoration of the Jews spiritually to their physical land in the future.
“1 Thess 2:16 - 16 by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved—so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last! g
g 16 Or completely, or forever” E.S.V.
Notice the exclamation point they have at the end of the sentence which makes it look like Paul is rejoicing at their destruction. However, this fits in exactly with the Reformed bias which dominated the E.S.V committee. What a heaviness to their hearts it must be that Israel even though they are in unbelief, that they have been restored to their own land in preparation for their nation conversion following their tribulation.
Also, the footnote they have giving “forever” as an alternate meaning would mean Israel is eternally cut off from God’s plans.
The A.V. states that wrath has come upon them to the “uttermost” which is an accurate expression, stating that the Jews were having the farthest amount of God’s wrath which God had declared to that time. This has nothing to do with “forever”. As a nation, they were destroyed but God is able to resurrect them.
Romans 11:26 ”…a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26And in this way all Israel will be saved, …” E.S.V.
This twisting of scripture teaches that Israel’s national salvation is fulfilled by all the Gentiles coming in the church. The E.S.V. proclaims that the Gentiles become the new Israel. The Gentiles in the church have a most glorious heritage as being children of God. There is no reason to be jealous by God fulfilling His promises to Israel. This is the false teaching of replacement theology.
The AV says “and so all Israel will be saved” not “in this way”. The reason is, in the A.V. (KJV) it is plain that the temporary cutting off of Israel occurs, followed by the engrafting of a Gentile church. “And so” is the assertion that following their cutting off of Israel, they shall be re-grafted.
Appearing of the glory Titus 2:13 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, E.S.V.
We are not waiting for the appearing of the glory (which is some circles could be the earthly reign of the church as the Dominionists believe) we are waiting for His glorious appearing.
Revelation 13 – Every reference to the Beast becomes an “it” in the E.S.V. as opposed to the A.V where the Beast is always a “he”. This is the official Seventh Day Adventist doctrine exactly, where the Beast is not a person but a system. They spiritualize “him” into an “it”.
616 vs 666 Revelation 13:18 The E.S.V. states “18 Some manuscripts 616”.
Here they propose uncertainty as to the correct number that will affect the eternal destiny of souls in the tribulation (which the E.S.V. committee does not believe in anyhow). How could God allow such ambiguity on such a critical area? Easy…that is because in “their” thinking, He didn’t leave a critical area ambiguous as in the Reformed line of thinking, the passage is not to be taken literally as there will be no future antichrist. Hence, the confusion of the number proves God did not consider the issue important.
Revelation 8:13 “Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!” E.S.V.
Eagle speaking? Are they trying to be funny? AV says an angel cried out.
Revelation 16:7 “And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!” E.S.V.
A talking altar? More nonsense from the E.S.V. Stoned again! AV says it was a voice of an angel from the altar.
Sooooo, we have the following mess in the ESV (and these are just a few of the eschatological verses looked at)...1) A Beast which is not a Beast 2) A Mark of the Beast which is not a mark 3) Israel cut off from God forever 4) Paul relieved that Israel is being destroyed 5) Replacement theology.
