DO BABIES WHO DIE GO TO HELL BECAUSE OF ADAM’S SIN?
In Ezekiel 18:20 The Lord said, “…The son shall not bear the guilt of the father…”
In answer to the question if babies know the difference between right and wrong and are thus guilty, the LORD said:
Deut. 1:39 “Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.”
Isa 7:16 “But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right…”
This prophetic scripture teaches if nothing else that a child can be so young that they cannot understand the difference between good and evil.
Jonah 4:11 “And should I not spare…more than six-score thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand…”
What we have seen above is a clear principle of God’s mercy of which there is no reason to see why it would not apply to the eternal destination of the baby or those incapable of understanding good and evil.
There is only one way to be saved. However common sense makes it clear this would be for a being that has capability to understand what is being said. The teaching that babies go to Hell is a leftover teaching adopted by some Reformers from the Roman Catholic Church. Because of this false teaching, infant baptism was invented.
Every salvation verse was always spoken to those who were capable of believing.
Please note that in Genesis 3 – Adam and Eve while in the garden were naked which normally would be a state of shame before God but God did NOT credit it against them as they did not understand the difference between good and evil in this context. The scripture states they were both naked and unashamed before God.
Also see Romans 5:13 “But sin is not taken into account where there is no law.” It is not that a baby in itself is pure before God, it is that they are under grace though having a sin nature until they understand the difference between good and evil.
Jesus taught that those that are blind to good and evil (i.e. babies) are not guilty before God…(John 9:31, 39-41). Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”
In every case where someone is judged by God in Hell, it is for rejecting of the Gospel or the evil deeds they have done. There are no references to babies.
Matthew 5:22 “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement: and whosoever shall say to his brother Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”
(Babies don’t talk)
Revelation 20:13 “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell gave up the dead that were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works.
(Babies have no works)
Matthew 5:29 “And if thy eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body should be cast into hell.”
(Babies hands do not offend them)
Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
(A baby cannot fear God. A baby cannot understand God)
Matthew 11:23 “And thou Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell; for if the mighty works, which had been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.”
(A baby could not respond by seeing God’s works)
Luke 16:23 “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”
Luke 16:24 “And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue for I am tormented in this flame.”
(A grown man is in view, not a baby. Babies don’t talk)
James 3:6 “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members, that is defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.
(A baby does not bless man and curse God as James speaks about)
2 Peter 2:4 “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment:”
(The angels knew what they were doing; a baby does not.)
Considering the countless babies that have died since creation and the millions that are dying every year, if they were all doomed to hell, we would expect the scriptures to be quite clear about their doom.
And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them, but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Jesus commanded us to preach the gospel to every living creature. This is a biblical idiom for preaching to everyone who can understand. The verse does not mean to preach to fishes, mushrooms and centipedes. It is speaking about mankind. There is likewise no reason other than bias to assume the Lord is referring to babies when he mentioned every living creature. This would be the height of absurdity.
OBJECTORS TO GOD’S PLAN OF GRACE TO INDIVIDUALS BEFORE ACCOUNTABILITY ASK THEN SARCASTICALLY “WHY NOT KILL INFANTS BEFORE THEY GROW UP TO ENSURE ETERNAL LIFE WILL BE RECEIVED?” to which it may be responded, “Shall we do evil that good may result?”.
What about john the Baptist? Does not scripture state he jumped for joy in his mother’s womb when he heard Mary’s salutation? Can all babies understand language? Of course not! Look at the word ”even from his mother’s womb”. Obviously we are dealing here with a unique case.
